A member of the Alliance tells of a recent trip to Norman, Oklahoma to take a class given by the Postal Service to both employees and customers, called Periodicals Professional. It turns out that the Alliance member was the only customer in the class. When the customer explained that their organization mails at nonprofit rates and mails periodicals, a postal employee in the class said that the Postal Service would be better off without nonprofits and periodicals because they are not profitable. Most of the class of employees and the instructor agreed. Throughout the three-day class, the postal employees emphasized that they would be better off without the business of the customer in the room.
