USPS Announces New Lower Spring Prices

The USPS just announced new lower spring prices for postage. The date had not yet been set but it expected to be around April 10, 2016 that all postage rates are reduced 4.3 percent. This results from a years’ long effort by the Alliance of Nonprofit Mailers and its allies to ensure that the exigent surcharge granted by the Postal Regulatory Commission remains temporary. While the USPS has a moral and legal obligation to lower rates this spring, it continues to ask members of Congress to pass a new law overriding the legal/regulatory process. The Alliance will continue to oppose this cop-out, and work to ensure continued right-sizing of the USPS.

Spring 2016 Rollback Pricing Files
Absent Congressional or Court action to make the existing exigent surcharge for Market Dominant Products and Services part of the rate base or to otherwise extend it, the Postal Service will be providing notice to the Postal Regulatory Commission of the adjusted prices that are contained in the pricing files set forth below. The Postal Service intends to provide such notice of the adjusted prices to the Commission 45 days before it is anticipated that the exigent surcharge revenue target will be reached.
