The Postal Service has filed its unaudited October financial information at the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC).
The USPS reported a net loss of $545 million for October, compared to its planned loss of $220 million, and same period last year (SPLY) of a $701 million net income. The USPS reported total revenue of $7.32 billion, which was below its plan ($7.43 billion) and below the previous year ($7.67 billion). Total operating expenses were $7.86 billion, which was above its plan ($7.64 billion) and above SPLY ($$6.99 billion).
Total Market Dominant mail volume for October was 14.7% below October of 2024, Competitive Products volume was also 14.7% below SPLY. Looking at mail classes, First-Class Mail volume for October 2025 was 6.8% below SPLY and revenue was 0.6% down. Marketing Mail volume was 18.9% below SPLY and revenue was 9.3% below SPLY. Package Services volume was 12.1% below SPLY and revenue was 6.7% above SPLY. Total mail volume was down 14.7% below SPLY and revenue was down 4.8% below SPLY.
For Competitive packages, total volume was down 14.6% compared to SPLY and revenue was down 2.3%.
Total workhours were down 4% compared to the prior year, and total career employees was down only 0.3% vs. October 2024.
