USPS files 2016 Governors’ Resolution for 2018 Move Update Price Change

July 13, 2017

As if to illustrate just one aspect of the lack of Postal Service Governors, yesterday the USPS took the usual step of publicly filing its Governors’ Resolution to raise the penalty fee for Move Update as well as the method of determining compliance. In spite of its plural title, the resolution was approved on December 5, 2016, by the lone Governor, James Bilbray, right before he left. We understand he also approved price increases for both competitive packages and monopoly mail to take place in January 2018.

The surprise volume declines in 2017 exemplify the need for USPS to make timely decisions informed by the latest data. In the case of Move Update and the general price hike, decisions will have been made 13 months before implementation. That is no way to run an agile, successful enterprise.
